EECP Therapy and Its Effect on Atherosclerotic Plaque in the Carotid Artery

A new research paper entitled The Hemodynamic Effect of Enhanced External Counterpulsation Treatment on Atherosclerotic Plaque in the Carotid Artery: A Framework of Patient-Specific Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis has been published in Hindawi Cardiology Research and Practice Volume 2020 Article ID 5903790. The authors J Du, G Wu, B Wu, C Liu, Z Mai, Y Liu, Y Wang, P Zhang, G. Wu, and J Liu from the Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat Sen University in Shenzhen, China and other facilities have demonstrated that EECP significantly augmented blood perfusion and WSS level in the carotid artery, which may be the main hemodynamic mechanism underlying its good clinical effect for treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and the long term effect for inhibition of the atherosclerotic lesion. This work was supported by the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission.
