An article entitled “The effects of enhanced external counterpulsation on the serum level of C-reactive protein and endothelin-1 in patients with ischemic stroke” has been published this month in the Chinese Journal of Nervous and Mental Diseases. The article by Guoqiang ZHOU et al, explores the effects of enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) on the serum level of C-reactive protein and endothelin-1 in patients with ischemic stroke (n=187) to provide evidence for the treatment and secondary prevention of patients with cerebral ischemic stroke. The authors concluded that EECP therapy can reduce serum levels of C-reactive protein and endothelin-1 in this group of ischemic patients patient, which indicates that EECP can slow the atherosclerotic process.
